It’s being reported Marisa Tomei is in final negotiations to star as Aunt May in the upcoming reboot/remake/whatever of Spider-Man. Tomei would join Tom Holland who is taking on the role of Peter Parker (aka Spider-Man) in the film, which will be directed by Jon Watts (Cop Car).
Personally, I couldn’t quite care any less about a new Spider-Man movie, but I guess Tomei might actually bring something to a role I’ve found rather cringe-worthy from the start. Tomei’s best performances, however, have largely come from roles in smaller, independent films, or, at least more dramatic studio features. Her casting here, though, does raise an eyebrow of interest… and then five minutes from now I will have forgotten about this news entirely.
Holland will make his first appearance as Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War while the currently Untitled Spider-Man Project is set for a July 28, 2017 release. [The Wrap]
