Ever since NBC cancelled “Hannibal” I felt some measure of confidence it would live on somewhere else. I assumed that would most likely be Amazon where the show has an exclusive streaming contract. Of course, that contract makes it hard to pitch the show to anyone else, not to mention showrunner Bryan Fuller is currently turning his attention to “American Gods” at Starz. Now another wrench has been thrown in the works.
Deadline reports Mads Mikkelsen and Hugh Dancy are no longer under contract for the show, freeing them to pursue other projects without concern over scheduling any future work on the show. Obviously this comes as a result of the show being in limbo stateside, but it’s unlikely either of these two are just going to sit around doing nothing, crossing their fingers the phone rings so they can play Hannibal Lecter and Will Graham once again.
NBC will air the entirety of the third season, but it is looking less and less likely that fourth season will take place. Bummer.
