With the massive success of Pitch Perfect 2 earlier this year, contributing to the huge year Universal is having having already scored huge with Furious 7 and now serving as the home to Jurassic World and it’s record breaking opening weekend, it’s not surprise the studio is moving forward with Pitch Perfect 3.
Today the studio confirmed a July 21, 2017 release for the third film along with word both Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson are returning for a third go ’round. Kay Cannon, who wrote the first two movies, is back to write the third, though it’s not yet clear if Elizabeth Banks will again direct as she has already Red Queen“.
As of right now the film has no other competition on that weekend though the upcoming Spider-Man reboot does hit theaters the following week. Earlier that month Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales hits theaters on July 7 and War of the Planet of the Apes arrives July 14.
It’s also unclear which of the other Bella Bardens will be returning, but if I had to guess the third film will likely focus on Hailee Steinfeld‘s character and perhaps have something to do with Kendrick’s character going on to become a producer.
