Rupert Wyatt Set to Direct X-Men Spin-Off ‘Gambit’ Starring Channing Tatum

Rupert Wyatt directing Gambit starring Channing Tatum

Many of you may not know Rupert Wyatt just yet, but you’re definitely familiar with his work including most recently underseen and underappreciated The Gambler (probably because of that awful, Forest Gump ending) and Rise of the Planet of the Apes, but he’s now moving on to a comic book movie, which will have rumor after rumor before its release, which means Wyatt is about to become more of an online, household name.

EW reports Wyatt has signed on to direct Gambit, the X-Men spin-off starring Channing Tatum as the titular Cajun character last seen on screen in X-Men Origins: Wolverine as played by Taylor Kitsch. The solo outing for the character is set to hit theaters on Oct. 7, 2016 with Tatum expected to have, at the very least, a cameo appearance in next year’s X-Men: Apocalypse as Gambit, introducing audiences to the character, on May 27, 2016.
