‘Broad City’ Creators Team With Paul Feig For New Fox Comedy

Broad City” is among the few comedy shows on TV at the moment I wish I could say I’ve seen more. The Comedy Central show, especially from what little I’ve seen from this past second season, is among the most assured, quick and lively on the tube today, and seems only more confident and in tune with itself as it continues. This is thanks to stars/creators Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson.

The former web stars have a unique and dynamic voice, one that’s relatable and yet distinct enough to stand out among their peers. Now, hopefully, they can transition this from the web/TV to the big screen, as they sign on alongside Paul Feig (Bridesmaids, The Heat) for a new comedy at 20th Century Fox, based on Glazer and Jacobson’s untitled comedy pitch.

Details are limited now, but it is known Glazer and Jacobson are only on board thus far as writers. Additionally, Feig is currently only set to produce, not direct, alongside Jessie Henderson. It is also overseen by Daria Cercek from Fox.

Feig, in addition to the films mentioned above along with this summer’s Play-Doh movie. Much like he did with Kristen Wiig and especially Melissa McCarthy, the studio hopes Feig’s influence helps boast the presence of female comedians in Hollywood as he works with these two up-and-comers.

Before Jacobson and Glazer get to work on this film, however, they are hard at work on pre-production for the third season of their program. [THR]
