Check Out Four ‘True Detective’ Season 2 Character Posters & Nic Pizzolatto Q&A

HBO has revealed four character posters for the upcoming second season of “True Detective” featuring shots of the season’s stars Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn, Rachel McAdams and Taylor Kitsch. The highly anticipated second season premieres on June 21 at 9PM, but that’s not all we have today.

Medium has a Q&A with series creator and showrunner Nic Pizzolatto where he reveals that while the show may have the same name, this second season will have zero relation to the first season. So don’t look for one. He says the decision “was the result of fully committing to something new, but I do think that the seasons have a deep, close bond in sensibility and vision, a similar soul, though this is a more complex world and field of characters.”

Storywise, Pizzolatto previously referred to the plot revolving around “the secret occult history of the United States transportation system”, which lead to a lot of interesting rumors and speculation, but it seems that little bit is no longer true. “That was a comment from very early in the process, and something I ended up discarding in favor of closer character work and a more grounded crime story. The complexity of the historical conspiracy first conceived detracted from the characters and their reality,” Pizzolatto says now. “I felt, and those characters are ultimately what have to shape the world and story. So I moved away from that.”

The first season of “True Detective” featured a soundtrack that many loved and you can even listen to all of them right here and Pizzolatto says you can expect “original music plays a much greater role this season.”

The song we hear in the first trailer (watch it below) is actually one of the “several original songs developed with T-Bone Burnett” for the season.

Check out the full interview here and just below are all four posters, the first trailer as well as the season synopsis.

A bizarre murder brings together three law-enforcement officers and a career criminal, each of whom must navigate a web of conspiracy and betrayal in the scorched landscapes of California. Colin Farrell is Ray Velcoro, a compromised detective in the all-industrial City of Vinci, LA County. Vince Vaughn plays Frank Semyon, a criminal and entrepreneur in danger of losing his life’s work, while his wife and closest ally (Kelly Reilly), struggles with his choices and her own. Rachel McAdams is Ani Bezzerides, a Ventura County Sheriff’s detective often at odds with the system she serves, while Taylor Kitsch plays Paul Woodrugh, a war veteran and motorcycle cop for the California Highway Patrol who discovers a crime scene which triggers an investigation involving three law enforcement groups, multiple criminal collusions, and billions of dollars.
