Daniel Radcliffe in Talks to Play ‘Grand Theft Auto’ Creator

To his credit, Daniel Radcliffe has worked hard to re-establish himself post-Harry Potter, solely based on his acting chops and not by crude antics or shock performances. However, the British actor will soon play Sam Houser, a man who popularized himself by letting others engage in lewd acts and once-shocking behavior galore… in the video game world that is. Houser is the co-founder and president of Rockstar Games, and the film is named after the company’s most popular title, Grand Theft Auto.

The BBC biopic doesn’t center on Houser’s life specifically, but more on his real-life legal battle with Jack Thompson, a Miami attorney and activist who attempted to ban violence in video games. The latter’s role has yet to be cast.

[amz asin=”0470936371″ size=”small”]At the helm of this true-life story is Owen Harris, a television director behind episodes of “Misfits” and “Black Mirror.” This will be his second feature, after the soon-to-be-released Kill Your Friends, which stars James Corden and Nicholas Hoult.

Production is slated to begin April 20, with a screenplay by James Wood based on the book “Jacked: The Outlaw Story of Grand Theft Auto” written by David Kushner. Apparently, as the original title was Rockstar Games, the title Grand Theft Auto is subject to change. After all, we wouldn’t want to step on the toes of Ron Howard‘s 1977 directorial debut, produced by Roger Corman, now would we? [The Hollywood Reporter]
