Prior to the Internet, if you heard an actor was on the set of a new movie it was most likely going to be during the press rounds, but nowadays, as soon as it happens, it’s online and discussed immediately. Not that such “news” has any particular value, but it gives us something to read and discuss, particularly given the heightened awareness of on set safety as late. The most notable case being the death of Midnight Rider camera assistant Sarah Jones who died at the age of 27 last year when she was struck by a train, which resulted in director Randall Miller getting a 10-year sentence.
Today’s news isn’t nearly as dire, not even by a longshot, as it has been reported Daniel Craig underwent Easter Day surgery after sustaining a knee injury while filming the next James Bond movie, Spectre. Eon Productions confirmed the news and called it a “minor procedure”, but as someone that played basketball his entire life, I’m not sure how an injury to the knee that results in needing surgery could be considered minor.
Spectre is already working on a tight turnaround as filming will continue through May with the film slated for a Nov. 6 release date. An injury to Craig could have meant delays, but it sounds as if things will continue as planned.
A cryptic message from Bond’s past sends him on a trail to uncover a sinister organization. While M battles political forces to keep the secret service alive, Bond peels back the layers of deceit to reveal the terrible truth behind SPECTRE.
Directed by Sam Mendes
