‘Furious 7’ Explodes at Domestic and International Box Office

The weekend will be dominated by Furious 7 and Vin Diesel has already said Fast and Furious 8 is next as the franchise will move to New York City. But first things first, opening internationally yesterday, the seventh film in the exponentially lucrative franchise has brought in $60 million from 45 international markets in its first two days. Stateside the film brought in $15.8 million in 3,069 Thursday night showings that started at 7 p.m.

The international tally destroys that of Fast & Furious 6, which made held Universal International’s previous Thursday record of $25.5 million, compare that to the $43 million Furious 7 brought in yesterday alone. The release was the biggest opening day for any film in 15 markets including Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Trinidad, India, Indonesia, Israel and the Middle East.

The sky is the limit for this franchise as it shows now signs of slowing and with an 82% RottenTomatoes score, this one even has critics on its side.

I’ll probably keep an eye on this one all weekend as I’m curious to see where it will end up. Topping Captain America: The Winter Soldier‘s April opening record of $95 million is pretty much a guarantee and Laremy Variety]
