Adam McKay Rumored for Marvel’s ‘Inhumans’, Sony Plans More Smurfs and ‘Ted 3’ Already Planned?

After offering an assist on the upcoming Ant-Man, Marvel reportedly wants to get Adam McKay into the director chair for one of their upcoming movies with speculation the likely film is Inhumans. [Latino Review]

Sony Pictures Animation has announced an Untitled Animated Smurfs movie will be released globally on March 31, 2017 with Kelly Asbury (Gnomeo and Juliet) directing. Asbury added on the film’s production blog, “Since this new film has no connection to the previous live-action hybrids, we have a whole new world to create and it is critical to me and my crew that we deliver a movie that will enchant families and fans worldwide for years to come.”

Iron Man screenwriters Art Marcum and Matt Holloway are set to write a script for a reboot of the late 1980s sci-fi feature Alien Nation for 20th Century Fox. [THR]

Sony Pictures has secured rights to the popular anime series “Robotech” with Gianni Nunnari and Mark Canton (300) producing and Michael Gordon (300, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra) writing the screenplay for a feature adaptation. The series centered on humanity’s use of robot technology to fend off alien invaders and has an Independence Day meets emtyagStar Wars vibe. [Variety]

Sam Jones (better known as Flash Gordon) will once again be seen in Ted 2 on June 26, but now he’s saying he’s already signed on for Ted 3. “I just signed on for Ted 3. We’re moving onwards and upwards, it’s wonderful.” [ComicBook.com]

James Wan has finished Furious 7 and he’s now turning some attention to The Conjuring 2:

I’ve been working very heavily on the script, and the idea of continuing the saga of Ed and Lorraine Warren is actually very exciting. So the idea of going back to kind of nurture my baby that I created is part of the reason why I’m going back to do The Conjuring 2. And in some ways it’ll be like a holiday break for me after this film.
