New ‘Tomorrowland’ Poster Sends Us Back to Sci-fi’s Much-Loved … Um, Err… Wheat fields?

Ugh, just when I thought I was being Mr. Smarty Pants I go and call a wheat field a cornfield. I blame the future! For the sake of self-hatred I will leave the original article as is… Don’t judge me too harshly.

Is it just me or do sci-fi movies just love the imagery of the cornfield? From movies such as E.T., Signs, The X-Files, Man of Steel, Looper, Jupiter Ascending and last year’s Interstellar (and I know there are more recent examples I’m forgetting), there always seems to be a cornfield and Brad Bird‘s Tomorrowland offers up another example on this latest poster, released primarily to let you know a new trailer will be released next Monday morning.

Starring George Clooney and Britt Robertson, Tomorrowland centers on a former boy-genius inventor (Clooney) jaded by disillusionment, is bound to a bright, optimistic teen (Robertson) as they come to realize they have a shared destiny, which will send them on a danger-filled mission to unearth the secrets of an enigmatic place somewhere in time and space that exists in their collective memory as Tomorrowland.

Hugh Laurie, Raffey Cassidy, Thomas Robinson, Judy Greer and Kathryn Hahn co-star and the film is set for a May 22 release. Check out the new poster below and stay tuned on Monday when I’ll have the new trailer for you.
