First Picture of Eddie Redmayne in ‘The Danish Girl’

Eddie Redmayne has what may be the first of many Oscars on his mantle after winning the statue for his performance in The Theory of Everything, but only time will tell if this will become a trend for the young actor. Then again, it looks like he is already primed for at least another nomination as he stars in The Danish Girl for Oscar winning director Tom Hooper (The King’s Speech) and just above is the first picture of the actor in character.

Redmayne takes on the role of Einar Wegener, a Danish artist who became the first ever sex-change patient. The film tells of Einar and Gerda Wegener (Alicia Vikander) and how their marriage took a sharp left turn after Einar stood in for a female model that Gerda was set to paint. This film has seen plenty of changes over the years with Tomas Alfredson (Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy) directing at one point after Anand Tucker dropped out and Nicole Kidman playing the role of Einar while the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow and Charlize Theron were attached to play Gerda at various times over the years. Oh, and after all that, Lasse Hallstrom was the last director attached back in 2010 before the project went quiet for a while until Hooper came aboard.

Clearly we’re looking at a film made with the intent for Oscars with Ben Whishaw, Amber Heard and Matthias Schoenaerts also members of the cast. Universal will distribute, though they have not yet set an official release date.

Redmayne spoke with The Daily Mail about the film saying, “We’re looking at everything from a feminine perspective… I think it’s the most sensitive role I have played.” Redmayne added that he’s been “observing the minutiae of feminine physicality.” I bet you have Eddie, though I will say this, I see that pic above and he looks a lot like Jessica Chastain to me… or am I crazy?
