I don’t do a lot of DVD and Blu-ray announcement posts, I leave that mostly for my standard Tuesday morning “This Week on DVD & Blu-ray” columns, but Fox Home Entertainment dropped a bit of a bomb this morning announcing Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu‘s Birdman (aka the Best Movie of 2014) is not only hitting digital streaming today (buy it here), but will arrive on DVD and Blu-ray in just two weeks, on February 13. I’m not sure I remember an announcement only two weeks ahead of a film’s release.
Obviously this has a little to do with final Oscar voting beginning this Friday, February 6 and the DVD and Blu-ray release is well-timed to have the movie hit shelves and social consciousness four days before Oscar voting ends on February 17. It will also help the studio if it’s already available both on streaming and physical media formats should it win Best Picture at the Oscars, which is where I have it predicted at the moment.

- Birdman: All-Access
- A Conversation with Michael Keaton and Alejandro G. Iñárritu
- Gallery: Chivo’s On-Set Photos
The DVD edition doesn’t include the conversation with Keaton and Inarritu.
