Tom Hardy Drops Out of ‘Suicide Squad’, WB Eyes Jake Gyllenhaal to Replace

Here is a story concerning two individuals who, unfortunately, were not given Academy Award nominations for their performances in Locke and Nightcrawler. Tom Hardy, who had been previously cast to play Rick Flagg in Suicide Squad, has dropped out of the David Ayer‘s film due to scheduling conflicts. This makes a big Tom Hardy fan like myself quite sad.

Warner Bros. is obviously looking for a replacement, and according to The Hollywood Reporter, they have already put up the bat signal (DC reference!) to Jake Gyllenhaal. I am sure if he gets cast, many people will be quite happy with the choice.

I have not been as enamored with Gyllenhaal as everyone on the Internet has been the past couple of years. He is a fine actor. Don’t get me wrong. But he ain’t no Tom Hardy. He was the biggest reason I was mildly interested in this film, and now that is gone. Hardy is currently filming Alejandro González Iñáritu‘s The Revenant along with Leonardo DiCaprio. So, the little excitement I had for Suicide Squad will now move its way over to The Revenant, which was already extremely high.
