Michael Keaton Eyes ‘Kong: Skull Island’ Payday

Birdman was the best movie of 2014 and it was great seeing Michael Keaton crush such an energetic and lively role and it’s most likely going to earn him his first Oscar. However, 2014 also saw Keaton in a pair of bigger budget duds, those being the semi-adequate RoboCop remake and the terrible Need for Speed. Whatever, gotta cash them checks and it appears he may be looking to cash another one as it’s being reported he’s eying a role in Legendary’s Kong: Skull Island.

Jordan Vogt-Roberts (The Kings of Summer) is directing and Tom Hiddleston is already on board to star with J.K. Simmons also joining the cast, which is to say this 2017 release could very well feature two recent Oscar winners.

Very little is known about the plot other than to say it “will fully immerse audiences in the mysterious and dangerous home of the king of the apes as a team of explorers ventures deep inside the treacherous, primordial island.” Sounds to me like they don’t need actors at all, just a group of visual effects wizards, but we’ll see soon enough.

As for Keaton’s involvement, let’s just hope there’s another movie akin to Birdman around the corner, and no, I’m not talking about the potential of a Beetlejuice 2, I don’t really need that in my life either. I guess Thomas McCarthy‘s Spotlight could be that film… the cast, director and synopsis certainly suggest great things.
