Doesn’t Sound Like Channing Tatum is Ready for ’23 Jump Street’

Someone may have jumped the gun a bit when it was reported back in September that not only would there be a 23 Jump Street, but Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill were already on board with directors Chris Miller and Phil Lord attached to, at the very least, produce. However, in speaking with USA Today, Tatum throws a little cold water on all of that saying:

College was the obvious next step for us. We had to go there. I don’t know what the next step is after college. Do we go and take down Enron? Or the government in D.C.? I feel like it’s all redundant. The big running joke of the second movie is this is just going to be bigger and (crappier) than the first time. I don’t know if that joke works three times so we’ll see.

That little “we’ll see” at the end almost sounds like a threat, but other than that, yes, 22 Jump Street was crappier and no, the joke doesn’t work more than once, which is why 22 Jump Street wasn’t all that good. I’m sure this won’t stop the studio from trying to get a third film made after the sequel made over $327 million worldwide on a paltry $50 million budget. However, if Tatum and Hill weren’t willing to return would anyone care?
