I have played the game “Angry Birds” probably three times in my life. The appeal of it that connected with so many people never got to me. I have plenty of game apps on my phone, but “Angry Birds” got deleted fairly quick. Also, I do not hear people talking much about it anymore, shifting over to games like “Heads Up!“, which can be very fun with the right people. Even though the game is no longer really relevant, Hollywood has a name they can use to market, so we will be getting Angry Birds in motion picture format.
Naturally, the film will feature a collection of voices that can be easily marketed. Jason Sudeikis will play Red, the hot-tempered lead bird. After a strong vocal performance in Frozen, Josh Gad will voice Chuck. Then there’s Danny McBride, who will portray Bomb. Bill Hader (who is currently in The Skeleton Twins which everyone should see), Maya Rudolph, and national treasure Peter Dinklage will also provide their voices.
I cannot think of anyone who would be interested in seeing this film, which will be released July 1, 2016, even further removed from the popularity of the game. Movies based on video games already have a bad reputation, and a game with pretty much no story does not make me think it will buck that trend. However, Hollywood will keep on trying to get these name brand games onto the big screen. Even a Tetris movie is in the works. What are you even supposed to do with that? You fit falling blocks together!
News like this often makes me sad. At least these actors will be getting a pretty decent payday for this. I would be a voice in this movie for that cash.
