Elizabeth Banks, Donald Glover and Michael Strahan Join ‘Magic Mike XXL’

Warner Bros. has officially announced the start of production on Magic Mike XXL, the sequel to Steven Soderbergh‘s 2012 break-out hit Magic Mike, which will again star Channing Tatum in the title role and co-writing the screenplay with Reid Carolin.

Soderbergh will serve as cinematographer this time around, handing off directorial duties to Gregory Jacobs (Wind Chill) and along with Tatum and returning stars Matt Bomer, Joe Manganiello, Kevin Nash, Adam Rodriguez and Gabriel Iglesias, new roles will be played by Elizabeth Banks, Donald Glover, Amber Heard, Andie MacDowell, Jada Pinkett Smith and even Michael Strahan.

Here’s the official synopsis:

Picking up the story three years after Mike (Channing Tatum) bowed out of the stripper life at the top of his game, Magic Mike XXL finds the remaining Kings of Tampa likewise ready to throw in the towel. But they want to do it their way: burning down the house in one last blow-out performance in Myrtle Beach, and with legendary headliner Magic Mike sharing the spotlight with them. On the road to their final show, with whistle stops in Jacksonville and Savannah to renew old acquaintances and make new friends, Mike and the guys learn some new moves and shake off the past in surprising ways.

Magic Mike XXL is set to hit theaters on Wednesday, July 1, 2015.

And if you’re wondering how Strahan will look as a stripper, well, here he is during an appearance back in June 2012 during a taping of “LIVE! with Kelly and Michael“. Obviously this is what resulted in his place in the movie as he told ABC, “I’m getting ready to do something that’s making me nervous. I’m about to do something that started as a joke on the show… It’s kind of a thong thing.”
