When asked by Time Out London how she feels about hit comedy Mean Girls ten years after its release, Lindsay Lohan responded, “People really love the movie: how do you top that?”
My first inclination is to come back with “you don’t”, but I guess Lohan already had an answer to her own question.
I was with Tina Fey the other day and I said we should do another Mean Girls, like an older version where they’re all housewives and they’re all cheating. That would be really funny. I’ll harass Tina to write it.
Now, don’t get me wrong, I love Mean Girls just as much as the next, and I’m not afraid to say it — or tell you that “Is butter a carb?” is a vastly underrated line — but the idea of a follow-up detailing a bunch of cheating housewives does nothing to pique my interest. With all the different TV iterations of “Housewives of [insert city here]”, I think it’s time for us to step back and maybe try something a little less, I don’t know — obvious? Plus, wasn’t the idea at the end of the movie that they had all learned their lesson?
Lohan also told Time Out that her five-year plan includes getting married, having children, and hopefully being at the Oscars — “but that’s as far as it goes for now.” That’s as far as it goes? Sounds like a pretty ambitious plan to me, as I’m assuming she means she wants to be at the Oscars and not just at the Oscars.
On the other hand, it’s been a while since we’ve heard much positive news about the troubled former child-star, what with all her run-ins with the police and her frequent battles with addiction, so it’s nice to see that Lohan might actually be attempting to turn things around, even if it means returning to the property she’s best known for.
These days, Lindsay Lohan is out in London plotting a career resurgence of sorts. She is currently starring in a new West End production of “Speed-the-Plow”, a Hollywood satire from writer David Mamet (Wag the Dog) about a secretary who tries to manipulate two big-shot producers — who want nothing more than to sleep with her — into greenlighting a new script.
As for another Mean Girls, well, let’s hope writer Tina Fey has the sense to tell Lindsay Lohan that it’s not going to happen.
