The final numbers for Sony’s The Equalizer this weekend could be interesting as it pulled in $1.45 million from Friday screenings on its way to what will likely be a $28 million weekend or thereabouts. However, the fact it’s playing on a selection of IMAX screens could bump its total slightly, though “slightly” could only mean a couple million and I expect this one to play close to the $27 million brought in by 2 Guns last year.
Looking at predictions, the reader average is a little over that number, hoping for a $30+ million finish, but I just don’t see that happening. Laremy’s $27.5 million prediction seems a safer bet.
No late night numbers for The BoxTrolls, which Laremy pegged at $17.3 million for the weekend while the readers see it opening a little softer at $16.1 million. I never had a chance to see the latest from Laika, but reviews seems solid enough.
Last weekend’s #1 film, The Maze Runner is looking at the standard 50+% drop and A Walk Among the Tombstones is looking at a similar dip, though possibly a little less.
I’ve included Laremy’s predictions and the average reader predictions directly below and I’ll be back on Sunday with box office estimates. To see Laremy’s full list of predictions and all 90 reader predictions for this weekend click here.
