I adore the HBO program “Game Of Thrones“. Something about seeing high quality actors sink their teeth into meaty dialogue really tickles my fancy. You can keep all the blood and guts you want with that show and just give me an hour of Charles Dance and Lena Headey saying very passive aggressive things to one another. Now, we will get the chance to see them outside of King’s Landing and on the big screen, as the two have signed on for Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, which was just picked up by Screen Gems for U.S. distribution.
The film is based on the popular Jane Austen parody by author Seth Grahame-Smith (Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter). It follows the story we have all seen countless versions of about Elizabeth Bennet (Lily James) and her love interest Mr. Darcy (Sam Riley). Except this time there is a zombie uprising. The film also stars Matt Smith, Bella Heathcoate, Jack Huston, and Douglas Booth.
The only thing of Mr. Grahame-Smith’s I have encountered was the aforementioned film Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, which I pretty much hated. I, in theory, can see the mash-up of history and genre as a charming idea, but that film was as far from charming as it could be. Even Benjamin Walker couldn’t help it (Note: Go check out the Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson original cast recording). Though, I will still see this out of curiosity, especially after this casting report.
