Keanu Reeves is doing the press rounds for his new film, John Wick, and over at Nerdist they asked him if he’d be interested in returning to the franchise that sent his career sky-rocketing back in 1994, Speed. Reeves has always dismissed the idea of returning to play Jack Travern, even refusing to return of Speed 2: Cruise Control in 1997, but now he’s caught joking around at the possibility of a second go ’round with the character:
Oh my god, Speed 3: Redemption. Sure. Jack Traven kind of like, dusting it off.
Reeves is clearly joking in the clip and the likelihood of this happening seems slim to none, but it might not be such a bad idea for Reeves whose career is hardly what it used to be as the days of Speed and The Matrix are long gone and I think audiences would actually turn out to see him in such a film.
It’s not as if Jack Travern was a particularly deep character and Speed was more about the tension of the moment than anything else and if they were able to somehow get Sandra Bullock back in the mix and add a joke about her disastrous 1997 cruise and what a bad idea it was, who knows, maybe you’d have a hit on your hands and a film worth watching.
I won’t hold my breath waiting for it to happen, but it sounds like a better idea than a lot of the studio crap we’ve been enduring each month.
