Until it’s confirmed the title will be written as The H8tful Eight, I’ll continue referring to Quentin Tarantino‘s upcoming film as The Hateful Eight. I hope you’re all cool with that and I also hope that is the final title sort of how I hate referring to David Fincher‘s 1995 feature as Se7en, even though that seems to be the rule rather than the exception nowadays. Moving on…
Today’s Hateful-related news comes from The New York Daily News where they have a report that comes from a source at the Greenwich Hotel that saw Tarantino chatting up Viggo Mortensen, discussing “a ‘ruthless gang leader’ role”, presumably for The Hateful Eight.
I almost feel ashamed posting such a rumor considering we’re talking about a report that comes from an “eagle-eyed hotel guest”, but this doesn’t sound in the least bit far-fetched and, in fact, a great little rumor that might add a new grade-A actor to Tarantino’s stable.
Hateful Eight is expected to begin shooting in January and centers on bounty hunters returning human plunder to a town called Red Rock in exchange for hefty rewards when they run into a Southerner on the road. The three of them, along with their driver arrive at a haberdashery to take shelter from an oncoming blizzard. The proprietors are nowhere to be found, only four men in their ‘stead.
So far, Kurt Russell is the only name that seems to be “confirmed” for the film, though Samuel L. Jackson is expected to star. I assume The Weinstein Co. is waiting until Tarantino has all his ducks in a row at which point they will draft an official casting announcement. Until then, maybe more hotel guests will come to the table with big scoops.
