There was some speculation as to whether or not Bryan Singer would be returning to direct X-Men: Apocalypse after some legal issues came and went prior to the release of X-Men: Days of Future Past, but with the sexual assault lawsuit dropped, it has now been confirmed he’ll indeed return to direct the next installment with a lot of familiar faces and some new ones as well.
As far as who will be back for this next film, Deadline says we can expect James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Michael Fassbender and Hugh Jackman along with younger versions of Cyclops, Storm, Jean Grey and others. I expect that “and others” includes the expected cameo appearance of Channing Tatum as Remy LeBeau (aka Gambit), who is expected to get his own spin-off film as well. What remains to be seen is who will play these new characters as I don’t think we’ll be seeing James Marsden, Halle Berry or Famke Janssen unless I really don’t understand the alternate timeline created by Days of Future Past
Simon Kinberg is writing the screenplay from a story written by Singer, Kinberg, Michael Dougherty and Dan Harris with production set to begin next year for a May 27, 2016 release.
