In recent memory we had Marc Webb go from (500) Days of Summer to The Amazing Spider-Man franchise, Colin Trevorrow went from Safety Not Guaranteed and now Jordan Vogt-Roberts (The Kings of Summer) is heading to Skull Island for Legendary and Universal with Tom Hiddleston in talks to star. It seems studios simply love those indie directors for their big tentpole features.
Following the announcement during this year’s Comic Con, Joe Cornish (Attack the Block) was said to be wanted for the King Kong prequel which is said to be based on the cinematic origins of King Kong with an original draft of the script by Max Borenstein (Godzilla). Now Vogt-Roberts is confirmed for the helmer’s chair and will bring us Skull Island a film said to be staying on and exploring the mysterious and dangerous place with Universal distributing the film on November 4, 2016.
Honored to join the @Legendary family. Brace for Skull Island!! pic.twitter.com/wufi6ejNwE
