With a PG-13 rating, I can’t lie and say I’m expecting anything from Dracula Untold, Universal’s clear attempt at starting a generic franchise based on Bram Stoker’s Dracula, focusing on a young Vlad the Impaler (Luke Evans) who, when the lives of his wife and child are put in danger by a bloodthirsty sultan, risks his soul to save them, and in the process becomes the first vampire.
The pic is slated for an October 10 release and the first clip and a new poster have just come online and it’s clearly going for that glossy, modern CGI look all of these disposable, would-be franchise starters aim for, and I’m sure there will be some big battle in the end, a conflict of character, and a whole plotline with Vlad struggling with his now immortal soul and what it means for his family.
