James Franco Takes Rights to Palahniuk’s ‘Rant’

James Franco has previously discussed the possibility of directing Cormac McCarthy‘s “Blood Meridian” and while that has yet to come together, Franco has turned his eye to another loved modern author, Chuck Palahniuk, with the novelist himself reporting to Litreactor that Franco has acquired the rights to his 2007 novel “Rant“:

As of last night we’ve finalized a deal for James Franco to option my novel “Rant”. Details about the casting, shooting and a proposed release date will be forthcoming. Hurray. After the opportunity to work with Brad Pitt, Edward Norton and Sam Rockwell, I can’t imagine a more exciting actor to work with than Franco.

s[amz asin=”B00199B2YO” size=”small”]To this date only Palahniuk’s “Fight Club” and “Choke” have made it to the big screen and while there is clearly a lot more information yet to come, it sounds like this may actually happen. There is no word, yet, on whether or not Franco will only produce the film, or if he’ll also star and direct, but I would bet he will, at the very least, star in the picture.

As for the story:

Rant is told in the form of an oral biography. When the story begins, the reader discovers that the main character, Buster Landru “Rant” Casey, is already deceased. Throughout the book various people discuss their memories of Buster and the world he lived in, presenting stories in an occasionally conflicting timeline.

Of course, “Rant” was also optioned back in 2008, but nothing came of it. Palahniuk is noto your typical author, it takes just the right person to put a film of his together… could Franco be the right person for “Rant”?
