Chris Hemsworth and Charlie Day Join New National Lampoon’s ‘Vacation’ Movie

The Griswolds are coming back to the big screen, though it won’t be Chevy Chase in the lead as Clark Griswold, though he and Beverly D’Angelo are set to make cameos in the latest installment in the Vacation movies, this time around focusing on the children.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ed Helms has signed on to play an all-grown-up Rusty Griswold with Christina Applegate set to play his wife, picking up where Clark left off. Chris Hemsworth (Thor, Avengers: Age of Ultron) and Charlie Day (Pacific Rim, Horrible Bosses 2) are also set to star with Hemsworth playing the husband of Rusty’s sister, Audrey, and Day making a cameo appearance as a river rafting guide, giving you some idea of the hijinks that may be in store.

The screenplay was written by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein for New Line Cinema and the duo will also be making their feature directorial debut with the pic. Filming is expected to begin in September.

The Vacation movies began in 1983 with National Lampoon’s Vacation and were followed by European Vacation (1985), Christmas Vacation (1989) and Vegas Vacation (1997). For my money Christmas Vacation is one hell of a great comedy and a regular watch at my house around the holidays.
