Disney and Marvel announced the start of production on Ant-Man today following all the turmoil involving Edgar Wright dropping out of directing the project and Peyton Reed (Yes Man) stepping into his shoes along with the script getting a bit of an overhaul thanks to Adam McKay and others. All that would seem to be in the past, but the film will never shake the fact fans wanted to see a Wright-directed Marvel feature, but here’s to hoping things get sorted out.
Along with the announcement that production is underway, the studio also revealed the complete cast, which, as we already knew, includes Paul Rudd as Scott Lang aka Ant-Man, Michael Douglas as his mentor Dr. Hank Pym, Evangeline Lilly as Hope Van Dyne, daughter of Hank Pym, Corey Stoll and Michael Peña, but we also learn today Bobby Cannavale, Abby Ryder Fortson (“Togetherness”), Judy Greer, David Dastmalchian (The Dark Knight, Prisoners), Wood Harris (“The Wire”), multi-hyphenate Tip Harris (American Gangster, Takers), Gregg Turkington (“The Comedy,” “On Cinema”) and John Slattery, returning as Howard Stark from Iron Man 2 are also all confirmed for the new movie.
Ant-Man is set to hit theaters on July 17, 2015. Just below is the official synopsis.
Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym (Michael Douglas), protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world.
