First Poster for Festival Favorite, ‘Whiplash’

Damien Chazelle‘s Whiplash has certainly caught the attention of critics from Park City to the Croisette and I’ll finally be seeing the film very soon in preparation for the Toronto Film Festival, but today Sony Classics has released the first poster for the movie reminding us just how much everyone has enjoyed it.

Whiplash stars Miles Teller as Andrew Neyman, an ambitious young jazz drummer, single-minded in his pursuit to rise to the top of his elite east coast music conservatory. Plagued by the failed writing career of his father, Andrew hungers day and night to become one of the greats. Terence Fletcher (J.K. Simmons), an instructor equally known for his teaching talents as for his terrifying methods, leads the top jazz ensemble in the school. Fletcher discovers Andrew and transfers the aspiring drummer into his band, forever changing the young man’s life. Andrew’s passion to achieve perfection quickly spirals into obsession, as his ruthless teacher continues to push him to the brink of both his ability — and his sanity.

Buzz is strong for both Simmons and Teller and I expect this one might do very well at the Gotham and Spirit Awards, but there just might be some room at the Oscars as well.

Whiplash hits theaters on October 10, check out the poster and the trailer below.
