N.W.A. Biopic ‘Straight Outta Compton’ Dated, but What N.W.A. Movie are We Going to See?

Universal has been putting together their N.W.A. biopic, Straight Outta Compton, for some time now and have finally agreed on a cast, director and release date. The film, which will star O’Shea Jackson Jr., Corey Hawkins and Jason Mitchell as Ice Cube, Dr. Dre and Eazy-E respectively, will focus on the mid-80s gangsta rap group and sets out to tell the story of how the group revolutionized music and pop culture forever, by telling the world the truth about life in the hood, which ignited a cultural war.

But will the truth about N.W.A. be told?

I grew up listening to N.W.A. so I’ll be interested to see how this turns out and just how much dirt it gets into. Considering it’s produced by Ice Cube and Dr. Dre with no mention of Antoine Carraby (DJ Yella) or Lorenzo Patterson (MC Ren) I have my doubts about how authentic it will be. On top of that, Eric Wright (aka Eazy-E), the most vocal detractor after the group split, passed away due to “complications from AIDS” back in 1995. Eazy and Dre had a huge beef with one another, that was reportedly smoothed over, though before that things weren’t all good as Eazy’s “Real Muthafuckin’ Gs” explains.

Even Cube got in on the action with “No Vaseline”

And Dre…

And then you can hear it from Eazy’s mouth from his appearance on the old “Arsenio Hall Show”

Hmmm, which movie are we going to see?

The film has been set for an August 14, 2015 release and will be directed by F. Gary Gray (Friday, Set It Off, The Italian Job). Just below is your first look at the three actors mentioned above along with Ice Cube (standing above his son), Gray in the middle and Dre on the right.
