Johnny Depp’s ‘Mortdecai’ Set for Early 2015 Release

In the wake of the poor critical reception and box office performance for Transcendence you better believe all eyes will be on Johnny Depp‘s next vehicle Mortdecai, which again features Depp in a role unlike those that have made him so popular in the mainstream, though the fact this is a comedy may work in his favor.

[amz asin=”0141003774″ size=”small”]David Koepp, who previously directed Depp in 2004’s Secret Window, directs and co-wrote the screenplay (based on Kyril Bonfiglioli‘s three-novel anthology) with Eric Aronson and Peter Baynham (Bruno, Arthur) and Depp is surrounded with an impressive cast including Gwyneth Paltrow, Ewan McGregor, Paul Bettany, Olivia Munn, Oliver Platt, Aubrey Plaza and Jeff Goldblum. As for the story… here’s the official word:

Juggling some angry Russians, the British Mi5, his impossibly leggy wife and an international terrorist, debonair art dealer and part time rogue Charlie Mortdecai (Johnny Depp) must traverse the globe armed only with his good looks and special charm in a race to recover a stolen painting rumored to contain the code to a lost bank account filled with Nazi gold.

Doesn’t that sound like something Robert Downey Jr. would star in?

Lionsgate has set a February 6, 2015 for Mortdecai, which means Depp will first be seen as The Wolf (aka The Big Bad Wolf) in the musical Into the Woods.
