Well, well, we have a conflict at the top of the box office. Laremy has placed his bets on the family film while the readers have gone with the R-rated genre sequel. Will it be Mr. Peabody & Sherman or 300: Rise of an Empire to top this weekend’s box office.
On the side of 300 we find the average reader prediction, lodging at $42.2 million prediction, which is still lower than Laremy’s $4.9 million stab, all of which are still lower than the $47.3 million tracking number. I haven’t seen midnight numbers for 300 yet, but I’m interested.
On the side of Peabody is Laremy, who’s predicting $5.6 million over the $40 million tracking number while the readers are just under at $39.7 million. Perhaps the biggest question here is just how high can this film go on the heels of the success of The Lego Movie? Do families still have the income to take the kids out to another animated feature so quickly?
As for the two holdovers, nothing too exciting to report, though the readers do predict a larger fall for Son of God than Laremy is anticipating.
I’ve included Laremy’s predictions and the average reader predictions directly below and I’ll be back on Sunday with box office estimates. To see Laremy’s full list of predictions and all 90 reader predictions for this weekend click here.
