Paul Bettany to Play Vision in ‘The Avengers: Age of Ultron’

Paul Bettany has been the voice of Tony Stark’s artificial intelligence computer program J.A.R.V.I.S. in all three Iron Man films and again in The Avengers and now he’ll apparently pull double-duty (or convert into a new character) in The Avengers: Age of Ultron as he will voice The Vision.

I don’t know anything about the “Avengers” comics, but based on my limited knowledge it seems Robert Downey Jr.‘s Tony Stark is in some way responsible for creating the film’s titular villain, Ultron (James Spader), and considering I doubt the franchise would have Bettany voicing two A.I. characters, J.A.R.V.I.S will somehow become The Vision.

According to Wikipedia, at least one variation of the character is described as a “synthezoid” created by Ultron and this in some way ties into the “Ant-Man” comics, but it seems only reasonable to suspect writer/director Joss Whedon isn’t necessarily following the comic canon word-for-word.

Along with Downey and Spader, Bettany joins a growing cast that includes Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson, Elizabeth Olsen, Samuel L. Jackson and Aaron Johnson. The film is slated for a May 1, 2015 release.
