Well, if you’re competing in the RopeofSilicon Box Office Challenge and you got your predictions in yesterday, you may have gotten a leg up as the Thanksgiving holiday resulted in a slight decline in the number of predictions and it looks like Frozen may result in a big win for some as the predictions found a wide range of numbers.
To begin, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire saw only a $1 million disparity between Laremy and the reader predictions. Catching Fire scored a massive $20.7 million on Wednesday and is currently looking to top the current five-day Thanksgiving record of $80.1 million set by Toy Story 2 back in 1999. In fact, many are thinking both Catching Fire and Disney’s Frozen could top that number and by a wide margin.
Frozen opened with a massive $15.2 million on Wednesday along with an “A+” CinemaScore and while Laremy went very low with only a $29.9 million three-day predictions I think some of my stats yesterday provoked readers to go higher as the reader aggregate was $45.3 million, though I still see something above $50 million being highly possible.
Open Road’s Homefront didn’t exactly do as well on its Wednesday opening, managing only $1.4 million and while Laremy went with $9 million for the three-day I think the readers may be on this one with their $7.9 million aggregate, but who knows, maybe more action fans will turn out after stuffing themselves with turkey.
Finally, Spike Lee‘s Oldboy is only playing in 583 theaters and FilmDistrict still hasn’t reported Wednesday numbers, which can’t be a good sign. Laremy went with only $1.7 million for the weekend while the readers went a little higher at $2.1m, but I think Laremy may have this one unless things improve.
