Who’s Up for ‘Gatsby’?

I’ve seen budgetary numbers as high as $127 million for The Great Gatsby, though that was before Luhrmann sought additional funding for reshoots that Warner wasn’t willing to pony up. True or not, $127 million budget means this 3-D visual feast is going to need at least $250 million worldwide to begin sniffing any kind of profit after marketing is taken into consideration along with studio/theater splits.

Yet, this thing looks to me like it is poised to be a massive hit. It’s got the trademark visual flair Luhrmann brings to a film and every second it seems a new piece of the original soundtrack, which was produced under the supervision of Jay-Z, is dropping online such as the following versions of Jay-Z‘s “100$ Bill”, Lana Del Rey‘s “Young And Beautiful” and Florence + The Machine‘s “Over the Love”:

And if that isn’t enough, here’s a six minute sampler of the entire soundtrack, which you can [amazon asin=”B00C2VGAW2″ text=”preorder at Amazon”] right now if you like.

Then there have been the endless barrage of trailers, another of which Warner Bros. dropped today and can be watched directly below.

Now you watched that trailer, now watch this one, which appears to be selling a completely different movie…

Oh, yeah, and it will open the 2013 Cannes Film Festival after it has already hit theaters stateside, a decision I’m, quite frankly, a little surprised the Cannes team greenlit, but it certainly won’t hurt the film’s profile and by that time reviews will already be everywhere so even those won’t have an effect that late in the game.

So I ask you, with all this, are you going to be getting in line for The Great Gatsby?
