Yet another comic book convention is spawning exclusive poster art. The New York Comic Con is getting underway and Legendary has revealed the following piece of art in conjunction with Guillermo del Toro‘s Pacific Rim, with the director set to be on the premises at the Legendary booth on Friday, October 12 at 2 pm to sign the poster created by Spanish artist Raul Monge, who served as a concept artist on Pacific Rim as well as del Toro’s Pan’s Labyrinth and Hellboy 2.
The future-set monster feature stars Idris Elba, Charlie Hunnam, Charlie Day, Rinko Kikuchi, Rob Kazinsky, Clifton Collins Jr. and Ron Perlman in which legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, igniting a war that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end.
Speaking on the art and it’s meaning, del Toro said, “The idea with this particular piece was to emulate an old WWII propaganda poster/flyer that went along with the world we were creating. It symbolizes rationing – voluntary work force, no guts, no glory kind of heroism.”
The film is set to hit theaters on July 12 and before then a Pacific Rim graphic novel, written by the film’s writer Travis Beacham (Clash of the Titans), will be released that will serve as a prequel, providing important details on the characters and the lead up to the story arc of the movie. The story will cover the in-world history from the first attack up to just before the movie.
