Night Cap: Pattinson Joins Herzog, No ‘Eastern Promises 2’, Gibson Ready for ‘Berserker’ and a ‘Master’ Track Listing

I’m not sure how interesting this will be for most of you, but Marvel has updated the Iron Man 3 official site with the logo animation you see to the right.

Robert Pattinson has joined the cast of Werner Herzog‘s Queen of the Desert opposite Naomi Watts with a late Fall 2012 start being eyed. The film is based on the true story of Gertrude Bell (Watts), the traveler, writer, archaeologist, explorer, cartographer, and political attache for the British Empire at the dawn of the twentieth century. Pattinson’s character is that of T.E. Lawrence, whom most know as Lawrence of Arabia. [Variety]

Keanu Reeves continues to discuss the prospects of a Bill and Ted’s 3 this time telling GQ, “One of the plot points is that these two people have been crushed by the responsibility of having to write the greatest song ever written and to change the world. And they haven’t done it. So everybody is kind of like: ‘Where is the song?’ The guys have just drifted off into esoterica and lost their rock, and we go on this expedition, go into the future to find out if we wrote the song, and one future ‘us’ refuses to tell us, and another future ‘us’ blames us for their lives because we didn’t write the song, so they’re living this terrible life. In one version we’re in jail; in another we’re at some kind of highway motel and they hate us.” At this time the film is inching closer to a reality, recently signing Red 2 helmer Dean Parisot to direct. In an interview Mel Gibson says his Viking movie Berserker is “going forward”. When asked if it would go the Apocalypto route and be presented in defunct Old Norse and Anglo-Saxon he added, “I’d thought about that at one time but then when you consider that English comes from the middle English language, it’s not a big jump. I’ll do something that’s understandable for a modern audience. But it won’t be the English they’re used to.” Meanwhile he doesn’t see much of a chance for Lethal Weapon 5. You know, because you’ve been champing at the bit for that one. [CS]

Raiders of the Lost Ark will be getting an IMAX re-release from September 7 to 13. The film will be reportedly presented in a 70mm format supervised by Steven Spielberg though it will play in both large format IMAX theaters as well as the smaller, non-traditional ones. Of course, this serves as a primer for the upcoming Blu-ray release of Indiana Jones: The Complete Adventures on September 18. You can preorder that here. [THR]

A complete track listing for the soundtrack to Paul Thomas Anderson‘s The Master has been released and on top of the score from Jonny Greenwood it includes tracks by Ella Fitzgerald, Madisen Beaty, Jo Stafford and Helen Forrest. The soundtrack will go on sale on September 11, three days before the film hits theaters. [Pitchfork]

I was originally surprised to see David Cronenberg was actually going to make Eastern Promises 2 with both Viggo Mortensen and Vincent Cassel set to return and now I’m not at all surprised to hear the project is now dead. Speaking with The Playlist, Cronenberg was asked what he was doing next and he said, “We were supposed to start shooting Eastern Promises 2 in October, [but] It’s done… If you don’t like it talk to James Schamus at Focus. It was his decision.” [Playlist]

Just below is a look at “Hammer Girl” from Gareth Evans‘ upcoming sequel to The Raid. Titled Berandal, the film is currently in pre-production with filming expected to get underway in September. As far as Hammer Girl is concerned, her role in the narrative (will this film have one?) has not yet been revealed. [Gareth Evans]

Finally, someone has inexplicably taken the time to edit together movie quotes to recreate Sir Mix-A-Lot’s “Baby Got Back”. God knows how long it must have taken.
