First Look at Scarlett Johansson as an Alien in ‘Under the Skin’

Jonathan Glazer‘s new film Under the Skin is described as part road movie, part science fiction, part real. The story centers on an alien (Scarlett Johansson) disguised as the perfect aesthetic form of a mesmerizing woman.

She scours Scotland’s remote highways and desolate scenery using her sexuality to snare human prey, but over the course of her travels she becomes drawn to and changed by the complexity of life on Earth. With this new found humanity and weakening alien resolve, she finds herself on a collision course with her own kind. Taking her point of view throughout, the film presents a unique look at our world through alien eyes.

Sounds to me like the independent film version of Species and depending on when it gets picked up for distribution and is then later released I’m sure there will be some kind of comparison to The Host, though that film sounds tame compared to this one.

Today Film Nation debuted the above first official image of Johansson in the film, which is now in post production and the good bet would be it will screen at the Toronto International Film Festival later this year.

Glazer wrote and directed the film and he’s probably best known for his 2004 feature Birth, which starred Nicole Kidman and introduced Cameron Bright.
