It’s getting close to that time when photos and additional information for movies at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival begins rolling in. Just today I received times for what will be my first and last screenings of the fest, the first being Wes Anderson‘s Moonrise Kingdom and the last film I’ll be seeing will be Lee Daniels‘ The Paperboy… what fits in-between is yet to be known, but I certainly hope to fit in Antiviral, the feature film debut of Brandon Cronenberg, son to David Cronenberg who also has a film in the festival with Cosmopolis.
As for Antiviral it seems as if Brandon is following in his father’s footsteps with a twisted tale that centers on Syd March, an employee at a clinic that sells injections of live viruses harvested from sick celebrities to obsessed fans. Syd also supplies illegal samples of these viruses to piracy groups, smuggling them from the clinic in his own body. When he becomes infected with the disease that kills super sensation Hannah Geist, Syd becomes a target for collectors and rabid fans. He must unravel the mystery surrounding her death before he suffers the same fate.
Caleb Landry Jones whom you either know as Banshee from X-Men: First Class or as Andy from Contraband stars as Syd with Sarah Gadon (who also stars in Cosmopolis) playing Hannah Geist and Malcolm McDowell also starring.
That said, here are the first two looks at Jones in the film and hopefully I’ll have more first looks for you soon enough.
Antiviral is playing in the Un Certain Regard section of the fest. For the complete Cannes line-up click here.
