Mike Tyson in for ‘Hangover 3,’ Elizabeth Olsen for ‘Oldboy’ and Crowe for Aronofsky’s ‘Noah’

I’ll begin with the smallest news bit and just get it out of the way as Yahoo reports that while on the Dan Patrick Radio Show, Mike Tyson confirmed he’ll be returning for the upcoming comedy sequel The Hangover Part III. There is nothing else to report on the matter other than he’ll be reuniting with stars Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis and presumably Justin Bartha for the third feature rounding out the trilogy, which is currently slated for a May 24, 2013 release.

In more interesting news, Twitch, a site that seems to have the inside scoop on Spike Lee‘s Oldboy remake, reports Martha Marcy May Marlene star Elizabeth Olsen has been offered the lead role in the film of Marie. Apparently Rooney Mara (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) and Mia Wasikowska (Jane Eyre) have already rejected an offer to star so this should still be looked at as merely an offer and nothing concrete.

You should make sure, if you haven’t done so already, to see Olsen in Martha Marcy May Marlene, which just hit DVD and Blu-ray, and she will also be seen in the upcoming remake Silent House next Friday, March 9. Should she accept the offer for Oldboy she would star opposite Josh Brolin playing a man who is kidnapped and imprisoned on his daughter’s birthday. For fifteen years, he is held captive, and, upon his release, must begin his journey to find the reason for his imprisonment. The film is expected to hit theaters in 2013.

And now we move to Darren Aronofsky‘s Noah and confirmation of a rumor I reported on back in early February saying Russell Crowe was being sought for the lead role in the Biblical epic.

Yesterday Variety confirmed the report saying Crowe is in negotiations and should things go as planned production will begin on schedule in July. This shouldn’t come as much of a surprise as Crowe essentially confirmed things were moving after the earlier report when he took to Twitter and in response to an article that said Aronofsky was “eyeing” him for the part he wrote, “And I’m eyeing him right back…[Liam Neeson] is eyeing both of us… and Paramount are eyeing us all, including you. Whole lot of eyeing.”

Noah has been described as “an edgy retelling” of the story from the Bible’s book of Genesis in which God, saddened by the wickedness of mankind, sends a flood to destroy all life on Earth, but before he does he instructed Noah to build a great ark and on it he saves his family and two of each animal species. Paramount is expected to release the film in 2013.

If I had to grade this batch of news I’d give the Olsen casting an A, she’s perfect. The Crowe casting gets a B, primarily because I like Russell Crowe, but it’s hard to tell with this one as we don’t exactly know what Aronofsky is going for. As for the Tyson news, that’s an Incomplete, because at this point, does anyone really care?
