What I Watched, What You Watched: Installment #134

It was up for debate as to whether or not I would continue to watch “The River“, and after this week’s episode I am giving it one more chance. I wonder how others feel as ratings look like the show is holding on decently in its time slot up against “NCIS” and “The New Girl”.

Other than that, it was only one movie for me outside of regularly scheduled theater visits…

The Silent House (2010)

I was supposed to see the remake starring Elizabeth Olsen (Martha Marcy May Marlene) of this 2010 Spanish-language feature earlier this week, but timing just wasn’t on my side so now I’ll have to wait until March 5. So, I decided to give the original a watch since I had the screener laying around the house for about a year and always meant to watch it, largely because it was sold on the basis it was filmed in one, long 86-minute take.

When it comes to my thoughts on the film, I don’t want to get too deep here since I already wrote an article I will publish later this week talking about a host of issues I had with it, issues I hope Open Road’s remake avoids. But, in short, the film doesn’t make a whole lot of sense. The remake is directed by Open Water duo Chris Kentis and Laura Lau and they also made it as one continuous shot (a fact I dispute when it comes to this original). You can watch the trailer for the new one right here and for this remake just below.

And stay tuned, I’ll be talking more about this one later this week and if you have a Netflix account it is available to rent, but not on Instant.

So how about you? Did you head to the theaters this weekend? Did you catch up on the Oscar nominees?
