First Poster for ‘Killer Joe’ Starring Matthew McConaughey and Emile Hirsch

My current schedule has me seeing William Friedkin‘s dark comedy Killer Joe on Monday, September 12 in Toronto and I’m pretty jazzed to see it despite the fact Friedkin’s best days may be behind him. One can always hope.

The film centers on Chris (Emile Hirsch), a 22-year-old drug dealer who has his stash stolen by his mother and has to come up with six thousand dollars quick or he’s dead. Desperate, he turns to “Killer Joe” (Matthew McConaughey) when he finds out that his mother’s life insurance policy is worth $50,000. Although Joe usually demands cash up front, he finds himself willing to bend the rules in exchange for Chris’ attractive younger sister, Dottie (Juno Temple), who will serve as sexual collateral until the money comes in… if it ever does.

Something about this just sounds so seedy and dirty, I can’t help but be interested in how Friedkin will shoot it. Considering it’s a black comedy with Matthew “Alright, alright, alright” McConaughey in the titular role it could be a grand thing to see.

All that said, today I have the first poster from the film and included a previously released clip above. Killer Joe has not yet been picked up for domestic distribution, but if its Venice world premiere and Toronto North American premiere go well, you may see it picked up by a distributor very soon.

Here’s that poster, and you can click here for a larger look as well as a look at a few more images from the film.
