New Trailer for Pedro Almodovar’s ‘The Skin I Live In’

This morning saw the debut of The Skin I Live In, and as promised now we have the domestic trailer for the film, which debuted at Cannes and will be playing the Toronto and New York Film Festivals this September in advance of its October 14 release.

The film revolves around Dr. Robert Ledgard (Antonio Banderas), a plastic surgeon who’s gone “mad scientist” since losing his wife and daughter. Elena Anaya and Marisa Paredes co-star.

I saw the film at Cannes, and you can read my review right here, but if you’d like you can check out the trailer directly below before you do.

If you’re wondering whether the trailer spoils the film or not… I’m not sure I should even say because the film does have a few unexpected turns in the narrative. One thing I will say, however, is that the trailer sells a film that isn’t funny, but my read on it was that it is “darkly comic camp”. Perhaps I was laughing at a film Almodovar didn’t intend to be funny. Maybe I’ll never know.
