Michael Bay’s Next, ‘Texas Chainsaw’ in 3D Next October and ‘The Wolverine’ Next Year?

I know you’ve all been waiting for news of when you’ll be able to see The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D and now you have it along with tentative plans for a production start on The Wolverine, a new project for Thor star Chris Hemsworth and just what exactly is Michael Bay going to do next? Get all the details below…

Hugh Jackman has been quoted saying, “We shoot [The Wolverine] in October, so it will probably come out a year after that. That’s usually around the timeline.” James Mangold (Knight and Day) recently signed on to direct the sequel and Jackman says after Wolverine he will move to making Les Miserables with the Oscar-winning director of The King’s Speech, Tom Hooper.

The only curious thing about Jackman’s quote is the suggestion The Wolverine will come out next year. With The Avengers releasing on May 4, The Amazing Spider-Man on July 3 and The Dark Knight Rises on July 20, it would seem he is thinking Fox would be looking at a June release for the film, which would once again make for four major superhero films in one summer and I don’t think I’m the only one who thinks The Wolverine would be the least anticipated of those four. Lionsgate has set an October 5, 2012 release for The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D to be directed by John Luessenhop (Takers). Bloody Disgusting reports the film will be a direct sequel to Tobe Hooper’s classic 1974 film that follows the lead character, Heather, who along with her friends, travel to Texas in order to collect an inheritance where they eventually have a run in with Leatherface. The site suggestsHeather learns she’s actually related to Leatherface. [Variety]

Michael Bay (Transformers: Dark of the Moon) will apparently put away his big budget toys for his next film, which he says will be Pain and Gain, a reportedly low budget ($20 million) picture centered on a couple of criminal bodybuilders involved in an extortion ring and a kidnapping plot based on the Miami New Times piece of the same name. “I’m still going to do it,” Bay told MTV. “I’m going to do it next.” The film has been described as “a mixture of Fargo and Pulp Fiction” or “Point Break with bodybuilders.” You interested? Warner Bros. has picked up a pitch for a film titled Swear to God from Due Date scribes Alan Cohen and Alan Freedland with Will Ferrell attached to star and Adam McKay circling the directing gig though he insists he is not yet attached. The film is described as a buddy comedy in which Ferrell plays a narcissistic hedge fund manager who thinks he has seen God. [Deadline]

Chris Hemsworth (Thor) is attached to star in Columbia Pictures’ Shadow Runner based on an original idea by Hossein Amini (Snow White and the Huntsman, 47 Ronin), who will executive produce the project. Shadow Runner’s plot is being kept under wraps and no director is attached. [Coming Soon]
