Greta Gerwig and More Join Woody Allen’s Rome Set Feature, ‘Bop Decameron’

In a press release I just received, the full cast of Woody Allen’s upcoming Rome-set feature The Bop Decameron has been revealed. Previously we already learned the cast would include Jesse Eisenberg, Ellen Page, Penelope Cruz, Alec Baldwin, Roberto Benigni, Riccardo Scamarcio and would even have a part for Allen himself.

Today we learn the above names have been joined by Judy Davis, Greta Gerwig, Alison Pill, Antonio Albanese, Fabio Armiliata, Alessandra Mastronardi, Ornella Muti, Flavio Parenti and Alessandro Tiberi.

It’s exciting to see Gerwig, who has an upcoming role in Whit Stillman’s Damsels in Distress, as a member of the cast, she seems like an actress perfectly suited for Allen’s films along with the likes of Page and Pill. Of course, Eisenberg is also a bit of a no-brainer and it will be fun to see what kind of dialogue Baldwin will be given the opportunity to chew through.

As far as the plot is concerned, as with all of Allen’s films very little is known. What has been reported is that it will consist of four vignettes, two will feature American characters, one of which is said to consist of a husband (Allen) and his wife traveling to Rome, and meeting the family of the Italian man that their daughter is going to marry. The other two will involve the Italian cast members.

There is no release date or distributor for the pic, but I think it’s safe to assume we can expect it in 2012 and that Sony Pictures Classics will be one of the studios likely to pic it up. Production will begin on July 11 and marks Allen’s first time shooting in Rome.

If you haven’t seen it yet, Allen’s latest film, Midnight in Paris, is in theaters now and I can’t tell you how often I feel I am recommending this film to people lately. It’s really one you should check out.
