Poster for Disney’s ‘John Carter’ (of Mars) Revealed

ON

Disney has debuted the teaser poster for John Carter, which is set to hit theaters on March 9, 2012 and features a massive cast with “Friday Night Lights” star Taylor Kitsch in the title role joined by Lynn Collins, Samantha Morton, Mark Strong, Ciaran Hinds, Dominic West, James Purefoy, Daryl Sabara, Polly Walker, Bryan Cranston, Thomas Hayden Church and Willem Dafoe. Andrew Stanton (WALL•E) directs.

The film is based on the Edgar Burroughs book and centers on former military captain John Carter (Kitsch), who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he becomes reluctantly embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet, including Tars Tarkas (Dafoe) and the captivating Princess Dejah Thoris (Collins). In a world on the brink of collapse, Carter rediscovers his humanity when he realizes that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands.

Unfortunately the teaser poster doesn’t give us any idea of just how Mars will be rendered, but while Disney does not plan to feature the film at the San Diego Comic Con in July the first trailer is expected to be attached to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 on July 15. So, expect to get a glimpse at Mars soon enough. Until then, here’s the poster via Apple.
