Sharks are apparently all the rage right now as today we get a glimpse (via Shadow and Act) at yet another new killer shark movie called Dark Tide and this one stars Halle Berry and Olivier Martinez (Unfaithful) and was directed by Blue Crush and Into the Blue helmer John Stockwell. Add this to Shark Night 3D, Bait and not to mention all the direct-to-video shark movies that have been released lately from Sharks in Venice to Sharktopus and it’s quite apparent people want to see these carnivorous fish gnawing on humans, yet none of them seem to even nibble the excellence of Steven Speilberg’s Jaws.
As for Dark Tide, which I hadn’t heard of until today, I wouldn’t expect to see it on the big screen soon. Here is the user-posted synopsis from IMDb:
Kate Mathieson (Halle Berry) is a diver who is deeply drawn to close encounters with the magnificent White Sharks who rule the primal predator shore of isolated Guadalupe island. When her husband chooses ambition over his wife’s safety in a split second encounter with the jaws of death, her marriage nearly breaks apart.

And now is the time to decide, which of the following do you actually want to see? Shark Night 3D is the only one with a confirmed release date as it swims into theaters on September 2, but as for the others the wait may be longer, though Bait may be getting a release in Australia in September.
Unfortunately the previous trailers for Bait have been yanked off YouTube, but there is still a storyboarded featurette, which I believe is narrated by the film’s director Kimble Rendall that can give you a general sense of what the film is about, which is… spoilers… about sharks attacking people in an underground supermarket.
