2011 Oscars Live Blog: Oscar Winners and Commentary

[8:01:16 PM] Laremy says: Your Hooper pick is dicey because Fincher is going to get the ol’ “sorry about that Best Picture loss, fella” routine.

[8:02:13 PM] Laremy says: Hilary Swank is here to present Best Director. I liked her in Conviction, but I was all alone on that so I just swept it under the rug, the same place you’ll find my love of Elizabethtown.

8:03:01 PM: And the winner for Best Director is Tom Hooper (The King’s Speech)

[8:03:47 PM] Brad says: Well, there’s that… and now I am breathing easier on that The King’s Speech for Best Picture. I am now 15 for 18. How you guys doing?

[8:05:05 PM] Brad says: Wow, Tom Hooper is eating up some time.

[8:06:01 PM] Brad says: I am still pretty bummed Chris Nolan wasn’t even nominated. Forget whether Hooper deserves the win or not.

[8:06:04 PM] Laremy says: And there goes the rest of the drama for the evening, The King’s Speech is lockish and I’ll finish 20 for 24.

[8:07:09 PM] Brad says: Annette Bening is tossing out a nod to this year’s Lifetime and Honorary Award winners.

[8:07:50 PM] Brad says: They included Francis Ford Coppola, Eli Wallach, Jean Luc Godard and Haskell Wexler.

[8:08:55 PM] Brad says: Commercial time and we have Best Actress coming up next. I am 15 for 18 this year so far and feeling good about the next three at this point.

[8:11:37 PM] Brad says: Another dress for Anne Hathaway, I think this one is made of sparkly plastic.

[8:12:04 PM] Brad says: I have got to say, not at all impressed with Hathaway and Franco as hosts, and it has nothing to do with them, just not good material. Boring.

[8:12:28 PM] Laremy says: Jeff Bridges is here to hand out Lead Actress. Has enough time passed that we can call Tron: Legacy underwhelming? Just not very whelming at all.

[8:13:14 PM] Brad says: Best part of the clip for The Kids are All Right… Julianne Moore blows Bening out of the water in it.

[8:13:34 PM] Laremy says: This is the only potential upset left on the board. Bening over Portman would hurt me, but it could happen.

[8:14:13 PM] Brad says: Look at Aronofsky rockin’ the porn ‘stache. Atta boy.

[8:15:03 PM] Brad says: I think Bridges is taking all of these ladies out for dinner tonight they way he’s waxing on and on about each.

[8:15:39 PM] Brad says: I have Portman winning this, she will join the ranks of other previous pregnant winners Catherine Zeta-Jones and Rachel Weisz.

8:16:23 PM: And the winner for Best Actress is Natalie Portman (Black Swan)

[8:17:21 PM] Laremy says: Good to see Natalie up there, hard not to be happy for her.

[8:17:45 PM] Brad says: Portman has got to be so happy she finally has the Oscar and can now go home and end the long run of awards campaigning and relax.

[8:19:20 PM] Brad says: So if my predictions of Firth and The King’s Speech winning play out it means Inception and Speech will tie for most Oscars with four.

[8:20:21 PM] Brad says: It’s a special moment for Anne Hathaway to introduce Sandra Bullock? Okay.

[8:20:32 PM] Laremy says: Portman just thanked the camera operators! You can completely see why she’s beloved.

[8:20:39 PM] Brad says: Here comes Best Actor. Pretty much obvious Firth has this one.

[8:20:56 PM] Laremy says: Wow, they really are going to get us out of here by 8:30 p.m. Nice work!

[8:22:33 PM] Brad says: Bullock is definitely personable, she has good stage presence.

8:25:22 PM: And the winner for Best Actor is Colin Firth (The King’s Speech)

[8:26:28 PM] Brad says: Kudos to Colin Firth (even if I thought he deserved it last year for A Single Man and that Bardem deserved it this year).

[8:29:10 PM] Laremy says: The Brits give a nice acceptance speech. We should consider letting them pinch hit even when they don’t win.

8:39:15 PM: And the winner for Best Picture is The King’s Speech

[8:58:48 PM] Brad says: One quick update to say, yes, the server went down and I am thankful it is back up. I ended the night 18 for 21, which ties my record from last year. Hopefully, next year I can hit that 19+ mark.

[8:59:42 PM] Brad says: I hope you guys enjoyed the live blogging, six hours is a long time and thankful if you stuck with us. Analysis and Oscar galleries coming soon.
