2011 Screen Actors Guild Awards Live Blog: Winners and Commentary

Hey look, you made it, let’s get this part started.

5:00:02 PM: Anyone care to throw out some last second upset predictions? Is it possible The King’s Speech could win 4 out of 5 of tonight’s awards.

5:01:42 PM: Wow, TNT’s intro to the SAGs is really boring.

5:02:03 PM: Great, now it’s the “I’m an actor” intros.

5:03:36 PM: Alec Baldwin and Betty White are hitting the stage for the first award… what will it be?

5:04:01 PM: Betty White is pointing out the crowd… she’s very observant.

5:04:24 PM: Okay, it’s for Best Actor in a drama series… Gotta be Buscemi for “Boardwalk Empire”.

5:05:16 PM: And the winner is Steve Buscemi for “Boardwalk Empire”

5:09:32 PM: Mark Ruffalo and Annette Bening are out to announce The Kids are All Right as a Best Ensemble nominee.

5:10:00 PM: Geez, this is some terrible teleprompter reading.

5:11:22 PM: Best Actress Drama Series is up next…

5:12:14 PM: And the winner is Julianna Margulies for “The Good Wife”

5:14:50 PM: Whew, commercial break… Sorry, had some backend issues there had my admin making Steve Buscemi not only a SAG winner, but also a Golden Globe winner for Best Supporting Actress… Oops… All fixed now… I hope.

5:20:27 PM: Taye Diggs and Sofia Vergara are now out to award Best Ensemble TV Series (Drama). I have no horse in this race.

5:21:06 PM: But “Boardwalk Empire” has to be the winner.

5:21:32 PM: And the winner is “Boardwalk Empire”

5:23:08 PM: I really have to wonder, it always seems like the same TV shows are being nominated. Is “The Closer” really so good that it deserves a nomination each year? I can’t even bring myself to watch it.

5:24:19 PM: Wow, that was a pretty bad acceptance speech, but to Buscemi’s credit it was his second attempt.

5:25:08 PM: SAG president time, which means nap time.

5:26:31 PM: Dennis Haysbert is out to prevent a montage of commercials. This seems insane.

5:28:41 PM: That commercial montage is still going.

5:28:51 PM: I really hope they take a commercial break right after this.

5:29:16 PM: Nope, no commercials, just Jason Bateman announcing Best Supporting Actress

5:29:58 PM: Will Melissa Leo take it? Steinfeld? Carter?

5:30:24 PM: And the winner is Melissa Leo for The Fighter

5:31:45 PM: No surprise in that category.

5:34:22 PM: Good Lord, the server is getting blasted. There may be a few delays going forward, but I am on it and hopefully we’ll be operating without interruption.

5:37:07 PM: I should have mentioned… commercial break at the moment.

5:38:58 PM: And we’re back with Amy Poehler presenting for Best Actor in a Comedy Series

5:39:47 PM: Will Chris Colfer win for “Glee” again?

5:40:54 PM: Nope… the winner is Alec Baldwin for “30 Rock”. It’s his fifth consecutive win.

5:42:44 PM: Now it’s Jon Hamm’s turn to present the award for Best Actress in Comedy Series

5:43:32 PM: Jane Lynch won for the Globe for this…

5:43:47 PM: And the winner is Betty White for “Hot in Cleveland”

5:48:47 PM: Colin Firth, Helena Bonham Carter and Geoffrey Rush are now announcing The King’s Speech as one of the five ensemble nominees.

5:49:12 PM: Next is Angie Harmon and LL Cool J to present the award for Best Ensemble TV Comedy

5:49:56 PM: “Glee” is getting shut out, any chance it wins here?

5:50:31 PM: And the winner is “Modern Family”

5:52:13 PM: Sorry, I’m still reeling from that Betty White win… It’s the only show I didn’t have in the database and I had to add it on the fly.

5:53:28 PM: Okay, a commercial break as we head into the final hour. I’m going to do a page break and let’s all pray this show gets a little better.
